The Most Important Part Of Your Sales Copy

Posted by Steven on April 19, 2007

Today I was talking on MSN with a friend of mine who recently hired a fairly expensive copywriter to write some copy for him. Knowing that I have tremendous “copywriting skills,” as he says, he asked for my opinion.

My response to him is below.

“See i spend tons of time on the headline…maybe too much. Writing lots and lots of variations and then choosing the 3 best and choosing from them. Looks like he spent a lot of time on the copy, which is decent, but not so much on the headline, which without a good headline you’re stuck anyway even if the copy is the best ever cause nobody will ever read it.”

I truly believe that the most important part of a sales page is the headline, which is why I spend TOO much time on it.

If you are writing your own copy, you should spend TOO much time on it as well.

Here’s a free traffic generation strategy you can implement right now.

You probably know about it, but that doesn’t mean that you are doing it!

No matter what Niche you are in, there are always blogs on that topic. The great thing about blogs is that search engines love them, and they often have high PR (Google Pagerank).

All you have to do is find these blogs (do a simple search on google for : Your Niche, blog), read them, and post quality comments. Usually there is a place to leave your site URL when you leave a comment, and this gives you a LIVE link on that person’s blog.

Next time the search engines spider that blog, they will find your link there.

There you have it. The quickest and easiest (and FREE) way to get more targeted, quality backlinks.

The Central Key To Online Copywriting

Posted by Steven on April 15, 2007

Over the years I’ve written a lot of online sales copy for a lot of different people.

Each site required a different strategy.
-Headlines were different.
-Formatting was different.
-Style was different…
-You get the point!

I actually went back and looked at them the other day and came to a conclusion. I’ve figured out the key to my online copywriting success. I ALWAYS use a style that is:

Conversational, Yet Professional.

While that might not be earth shattering to you immediately, go take a look at a lot of sales copy that is online. Some go overboard with hype. Some look completely amateurish and ridiculous. Some look TOO professional and sales-y.

Write like you are writing to a friendly business contact. Someone who you’ve been dealing with for some time and have a good relationship with. This is who you’re writing to anyway right?
