Copycat Marketing, It’s How Business Is Done

I have a friend who runs a multi-million dollar business. I don’t want to get into specifics but it’s in an industry that involves creating products based on creative ideas and designs.

The business is seasonal, meaning when Halloween is coming she has to prepare Halloween related products.

Here’s what she does: She goes into Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, etc… and purchases her competitors products! Then she designs something similar and creates her own unique product out of it, then sells a very similar but slightly different version to these same stores.

It’s not exactly rocket science but it’s smart business, and like I said, she’s been running a multi-million dollar business for years now.

She already knows these large stores like her competitor’s products (because they already sell them), thus she knows she has a good chance of getting her product selling in these stores as well.

How does this relate to Internet Marketing?

Lets face it, there are tons of products in tons of niches. Much of it is all the same information.

What’s different is:
1) Who is selling it (You)
2) How it is presented (Your writing and style will be different than your competitors)
3) The format (ebook, course, dvd, cd)
4) Other factors (price)

Don’t be afraid to be a copycat. Huge off line companies have been doing it forever and making a lot of money in the process.

-Find a niche you want to be in.
-Spy on your competitors
-Sign up for their newsletters
-Buy their products
-Join their affiliate program
-Create your own product and differentiate it using one or more of the methods above.

Internet Marketing is just so simple isn’t it? What’s hard is getting to work!

My latest product involves using Copycat Marketing to write unique article in any niche in roughly 5 minutes. I’m currently running a 50% off sale which won’t be available for long. Check it out now: Five Minute Articles - 50% Off

Steven, here’s an interesting and funny experiment that has to do with copycat marketing…

Go to Google, and type in the phrase:
    “even if it’s 2 am”

    (WITH the quotes…)

You get 3,290 sales letters in every niche imaginable… from how to tie a tie, dissolve kidney stones in 12 hours at home, lose weight, software membership, quit smoking, build a mailing list, it keeps going forever.

All because one guy thought to say, “Order this package now even if it’s 2 a.m.”

Try changing that search to, “Even if it’s 5 am” … instead of 3,290 search results… six matches! Only ONE of those is a sales letter.

If you still think “even if it’s 2 am” is just a common phrase, my friend Wes Blaylock was the first to use the phrase “love it or shove it guarantee” on a sales letter.

Search that phrase in Google… 229 different people have ripped that one off from him.

Hey Steven, maybe you should come out with Five Minute Copywriting instead of just Five Minute Articles… hey guess what… that domain name is unregistered.
